LAUNCHING
OF GOENAWAN MOHAMAD SELECTED POEMS
Tuesday,
17th August 2004 : Launching of a book Selected Poems by Goenawan Mohamad,
Indonesia's renowned poet and writer, edited by Laksmi Pamuntjak, at the Valentine
Willie Fine Art, Bangsar. The launch include a reading by the poet (with english
translations) and a book signing.
Goenawan
Mohamad is one of Indonesia's foremost poets,
essayists and journalists. A principal figure in the shaping of modern and contemporary
Indonesian literature, he was among the original founders of Tempo ~
Indonesia' leading news and comment weekly. The recipient of many awards and
fellowships, including a Harvard University Nieman Fellowship for journalism and
the Press Freedom Award of the Commitee to Protect Journalists, he now devotes
himself fully to writing and serves as a principal editor of the literary journal
Kalam.
The
book Goenawan Mohamad Selected Poems,
edited
by Laksmi Pamuntjak, published by the Lontar Foundation, is afirst attempt at
collectinghis poems in English translation.
