ABOUT YKP
YAYASAN KESENIAN PERAK (YKP), founded and chaired by Raja Ahmad Aminullah (who remains the foundation’s Chairman), was conceptualised in 1996 with several other Malaysian eminent writers and artists.
For 5 consecutive years since 1996 YKP organized the Ipoh Arts Festival (IAF). The annual 2-week affair showcased various events: visual art, music, theater, literature, craft market, cultural performances, workshops, seminars, competitions etc. The IAF is widely considered as an important festival that promotes the arts and culture in Perak. Due to some constraints that deterred the continuation of IAF, from 2002 onwards YKP instead organises smaller scaled programs on a more regular basis. Activities such as dialogues, workshops, film-screenings and art presentations are carried out in a more casual and intimate setting. This initiative becomes an additional objective for YKP: to nurture the exchanging of ideas, views and critical discourses pertaining to arts and culture. Functioning as an alternative space, it is now a centre that pools together a number of local art and cultural practitioners of diverse genres.
